About Scanner Angel
The Scanner Angel™ concept was created to speed up the repatriation of lost pets to their owners. At its heart, Scanner Angel™ is a ‘notice board’ where owners can register the status of their pet as lost. It enables finders of pets to check the animal's status on the ‘notice board’ and therefore facilitates the process of repatriation. The key information exchanged is the microchip number thus ensuring detail accuracy.
Some microchip scanners are Scanner Angel™ enabled. This means that they regularly download the list of registered lost pets from the Scanner Angel™ database and, when a pet's microchip is scanned, it immediately alerts the operator if the pet is registered as lost.
The Scanner Angel™ is based on three principles:
• Microchip scanners should be inexpensive and widely available.
• Owners of pets can register the status of their pet as lost on one not-for-profit network, free of charge.
• Lost pets' microchip numbers are regularly downloaded to Scanner Angel™ enabled microchip scanners which alert users immediately a lost pet is scanned.
Users of microchip scanners which are not Scanner Angel™ enabled can simply visit www.scannerangel.com and enter the microchip number that they are concerned about and can then immediately determine if the pet is registered as lost.
